About Me
You are reading gocool.org, a personal weblog of Gokul Thirumalai- me.
I was born in Chennai, India and was schooled at Padma Seshadri BalaBhavan (KK Nagar). I graduated with the Class of ‘99. I have an undergraduate degree in Computer Engineering from the University of Maryland College Park, Class of ‘04. I have since moved to Seattle, and work at Microsoft Corporation. I’m current pursuing my Master’s program in Computer Science (part-time) from the University of Washington, Seattle.
gocool.org was started in the summer of 2001, on a basement linux box. The primary intention of my blog has always been to keep my family and friends engaged and informed. Distances turn out to be less significant when I engage people in a dialogue every day. Due to the nature of my day job, I may slip in something technical once in a while.
In my spare time, I do a lot of random things. I play my Xbox 360, learn to play the guitar, learn Spanish, or read. Books I read are mostly written by Bill Bryson, RK Narayan, and a lot of random non-fiction authors. I’m an avid hiker – it’s hard to keep me indoors over the weekends during summer. A good workout at the gym always cheers me up. Music keeps me going everyday, and Santana, to me, is synonymous with God.
No “about me” page would be complete without mentioning my car. I drive a 2001 BMW 330Ci Convertible, the manual transmission version. Words cannot explain how shifting gears, switching lanes, top-down on a summery Seattle day feels.
