2008 Year in Review

with 2 comments

2008 had its highs and lows much like any other year. From switching teams at work, to summer hikeathons, to the stolen vacation, here’s my year in review.

February

After working 3.5 years in Windows, I switched to working on Windows Mobile at Microsoft. Lot of new opportunities, learning, working with an incredibly talented team, and the general high I feel after a change. Awesome.

April

Thaatha and Paati passed away. It took a while for us to recover from the shock.

Leaving behind boring Redmond for Seattle was one of the better things I did this year. Redmond was wearing me down with its endless suburbia. The drive to work is the only downside of the move, but listening to TED keeps me from pulling out my hair in Seattle traffic.

June

26! ‘nuff said.

July-Late August

Summer Hikeathons were fantastic this year. Every hike we did this year was hard. The 14-hour enchantments hike stands out as particularly memorable, if only because it was hardest hike we had done yet.

Late-August

We started our vacation Jet-skiing on Lake Chelan.

Black Thursday, August 21 2008. At a 20 minute lunch stop in Portland on our way to San Francisco, our rental car was broken into and all our immigration documents stolen. We had to abandon our plans to vacation in Spain and Indian in September. Life’s like that.

September

Looking for redemption, we spent a week in Maui, Hawaii. Truly amazing time.

October-November-December

Once winter set in, there’s little to do but buckle down at work and school. Seattle Marathon gave us something to look forward to.

December has been particularly harsh in Seattle this year with the snow storms. I’m happy to catch some respite vacationing with my family in DC.

School has been particularly intense this year, so I did little else beside work and school. A few gadgets I purchased have kept be busy – iPhone, Macbook.

Looking forward to all that next year brings!
